The music on this album started with a track from my friend, David Cloud, who also built the instrument his music was created on, the Canna Sonora (www.alliard.com).

As Dave says, it is a “21st century interpretation of a 20th century instrument – pure toned, high-pitched, and precisely tuned resonating metal rods.”

From the 1:23 sample he supplied, I created these ambient/drone works through processing and layering. At times, they remind me of the oscillator-based music of Alvin Lucier and Phill Niblock, and also the long-string music of Ellen Fullman. While I am not in their "league," I am nonetheless grateful for and indebted to their pioneering work.

I’m certain the compelling timbre of these sustained electronic drones, despite my best efforts to rough them up, is due to the purity and elegance of tone generated by the Canna Sonora.
