Down State 30:01

about

With the goal of adding more melody into my work, I chose to start with more melodic sources.

“Dance for Curtis and Lupita” started as my solo guitar rendition of The Beatles’ “In My Life.”

The basis of both “Pure Image: A Nation” and “Down State” is my solo guitar version of “Pure Imagination” by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley from the movie Willie Wonka and The Chocolate Factory.

The guitar pieces, including the three Displacements, were recorded unplugged on a solidbody electric guitar into a handheld digital recorder, and then transferred onto my computer.

30 Women 33 Minutes includes audio of young women singing, from an album of the traditional music of Burundi.

All original sources were digitally destroyed and massively manipulated, and then rebuilt, cut into pieces, layered and lightly offset.
